Wii U: Nintendo targets hardcore gamers - Pocket-lint

Nintendo has built a reputation for family friendly games. The release of the 2006 Wii console cemented that into the gaming company's history.

But with the forthcoming release of the Wii U, anticipated for launch at the end of 2012, the company has put several third-party developers behind it to ensure the hardcore gaming community is catered for.

At Nintendo's E3 conference at E3 in Los Angeles, a list of blood 'n' guts titles were confirmed: Mass Effect 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Trine 2: Director's Cut, Ninja Giaden 3: Razor's Edge, Aliens Colonial Marines, Assassin's Creed III and Ubisoft's exclusive ZombiU.

But is it too little too late? Isn't Mario and the not-yet-announced Zelda exactly what Ninty fans are after? Mass Effect 3 is old hat already and most of those other non-exclusive titles barely get the brain in gear.

The exclusive ZombiU has the potential to be rather cool, but zombie titles have been done to death in the last year or two and that's just one of many.

?

Will the hardcore gaming community respond? Or is the Wii U still destined for family-friendly fare?
