Texas City has new bomb squad robot

TEXAS CITY, Texas?? With more than $1.2 million in federal grants, the Texas City Police Department is building a bomb squad that would respond to incidents in a five-county region.

Two Texas City police officers, Sgt. William Creel and Cpl. Mark Moreno, recently attended federal bomb training in Huntsville, Ala., where they learned skills of operating a robot capable of handing suspicious packages.

They also were trained to deal with weapons of mass destruction and the disposal of explosive and military ordinance, police Chief Robert Burby said.
