? ? In an unprecedented move, the Latin Builders Association (LBA) has announced the opening of the LBA?Construction and Business Management Academy Charter High School. This announcement marks the first time that a?business association such as the LBA, has partnered with Miami Dade County Public Schools to open and operate a?district-managed charter academy. The LBA Construction and Business Management Academy Charter High School will?offer high school students the opportunity to earn their diploma, industry certifications, college credits, and even own their own business, concurrently.
The academy will be complimentary to attend for all registered students. The LBA is committed to have the LBA?membership serve as mentors to the students and offer internships in order to gain real life experiences, and even future?employment opportunities. Students will have the ability to plan and create their very own business, with the guidance of?established industry leaders. The ultimate goal is to prepare the students to graduate with the ability to open and maintain?their own businesses.
The classes offered will be in the construction management, marketing, and business fields, with a strong?emphasis on technology. Students will begin on day one with a College Board pre- advanced placement curriculum that?will better prepare them for advanced placement courses and dual enrollment courses at local universities. In addition,?the school will have frequent guest speakers, competing clubs, fraternities, field trips, family day, and other opportunities?for entrepreneurial advancement.
?We are excited to offer highly motivated high school students the opportunity to experience innovative instruction?and prepare them for future leadership roles in today?s global society,? said Gyovania Marante, Principal of LBA Academy.
This 2012 school year, the campus will open for freshmen, or 9th graders. In the future, the school will expand to?serve over 500 students over the 9 ? 12 grade levels.
?The Latin Builders Association is proud to serve the community in such a way,? said LBA President Bernie?Navarro. ?We believe that this academy will foster the potential of many future industry leaders by giving them the?opportunity to learn these skills early.?
