On Friday, May 4th,?Sound Fitness & Golf?Personal Trainer?Dustin Schaffer and his wife April hosted an incredibly fun and fact filled evening at our club that centered around the concept of cooking a healthy Paleo meal.
We enjoyed a delicious main course ? Pork Tenderloin with Mango Salsa. A yummy dessert? ? Chocolate Banana Coconut Custard. And were introduced to the appropriate wine pairing to accompany our dish ? as recommended by Dan Moses of Cravin? Wine.
In addition to the fantastic food and drink. April and Dustin explained how they made each dish and provided many helpful and healthy tips about cooking in general, cooking utensils, pans, the paleo way of eating, and much more.
The event was a huge success and we plan on running additional cooking demo?s in the future. We?ll keep you posted.
NOTE: For those of you that are not familiar with the Paleo way of eating, here?s a quick definition: The Paleo Diet is a way of eating that best mimics diets of our hunter-gatherer ancestors. With readily available modern foods, The Paleo Diet mimics the types of foods every single person on the planet ate prior to the Agricultural Revolution (a mere 500 generations ago). These foods (fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and seafood) are high in the beneficial nutrients (soluble fiber, antioxidant vitamins, phytochemicals, omega-3 and monounsaturated fats, and low-glycemic carbohydrates) that promote good health and are low in the foods and nutrients (refined sugars and grains, saturated and trans fats, salt, high-glycemic carbohydrates, and processed foods) that frequently may cause weight gain, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and numerous other health problems. The Paleo Diet encourages dieters to replace dairy and grain products with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Dustin recently brought some cookies into the club for us to try (which he says are actually nutrition/protein bars and not really cookies) . Many of you LOVED them. Per your request, here is the recipe: Apple Banana Cookies
