Brazil police forcibly remove protesting students (AP)

SAO PAULO ? More than 300 Brazilian riot police have forcibly cleared a university building that students occupied for a week.

Police smashed down doors at a University of Sao Paulo administration building during the dawn raid. They detained more than 60 students. No injuries were reported.

The students occupied university buildings Nov. 1, a few days after a violent confrontation with police following the arrest of three students for marijuana possession.

Students were protesting against the ability of police to patrol their campus at Brazil's most prestigious university.

The police began patrolling the campus about two months ago to curb thefts and assaults. But students complain of random searches and intimidation.
